Travellers

We hope you never have to use it, but our policy can cover you for:

  • An overseas injury that results in your death
  • An overseas injury that results in your permanent and irreversible disability, which means you cannot work
  • An overseas accident that results in you not being able to return to work and losing all of your income

If the worst case scenario happens overseas and you’re not protected by travel insurance, your death or disability can come at a high financial cost for you and your family.

Cover for your death

If you are injured while travelling and you die within 90 days as a direct result of that injury, we’ll pay up to $25,000 per person to your estate, to a maximum of $50,000 per family, if you’re between 16-80 years old.

If you’re aged 15 years or under, or 81 years or over, the maximum amount we’ll pay for personal accident claims is $1,000 per journey.

Your estate will need to provide medical reports and/or certificates that prove your death was directly caused by an injury suffered overseas.

Overseas funeral expenses

There can be large expenses and sensitive arrangements to organise when a death occurs while travelling. Our cover for funeral expenses helps your family to manage these costs and arrangements.

To assist your family with overseas funeral arrangements, we’ll pay up to $15,000 per deceased person towards either:

  • The cost of funeral expenses in the area where the death took place; or
  • The cost of returning the remains to your home town in Australia

We also cover the cost of a scheduled return flight for an immediate family member to assist with these arrangements, and cremating or embalming your body.

Cover for permanent disability

You’re covered for up to $25,000 per person, to a maximum of $50,000 per family, if:

  • You are aged between 16-80 years old; and
  • You were in full time regular employment before your journey; and
  • You suffer an injury overseas that directly results in a permanent and irreversible disability; and
  • As a result of this you cannot undertake or continue any gainful work.

You will need to provide medical reports that prove that the disability was directly caused by an injury you suffered overseas.

Cover for loss of income

You’re covered for up to $500 per week for your loss of income while you cannot work, to a maximum of $6,500 per person or $13,000 per family, if:

  • You are aged between 16-80 years old; and
  • You are injured during your journey; and
  • Within 90 days of the injury you lose all of your income because you cannot do your normal work in Australia.

Important conditions

  • You will need to provide documents from a registered medical practitioner confirming that you’re not able to return to work.
  • We’re unable to provide cover if your injury is covered by statutory benefits (such as those provided by an employer) or another insurance policy.
  • Cover will not apply for the first 30 days after you planned to return to your job.
  • Cover will not apply for any further benefit after we’ve paid you for 13 weeks.
  • This benefit provides cover if you’re unable to return to work due to an injury (defined as: physical bodily harm caused by accidental means), but does not provide cover if you’re unable to return to work due to an illness (defined as: a sign, symptom, sickness, condition or disease, whether diagnosed or undiagnosed), even if it results from the injury.
