Annual Multi‑Trip travel insurance for Australians
One policy to help cover a year of overseas trips from Australia
If you’re planning more than one overseas trip this year our Annual Multi-trip policy makes travel insurance easy. Instead of organising cover every time you book flights, you can set it up once and enjoy the convenience of having protection in place for the whole year. Designed for Australians who travel frequently, it gives one policy that provides cover for the whole year, so you can book flights and plan adventures without needing to arrange travel insurance each time you go away.
Once your policy starts, cover applies for an unlimited number of overseas return trips over 12 months. That means more freedom to book flights, plan or take spontaneous getaways, knowing your travel insurance is already sorted.

How Annual Multi-trip travel insurance works for Australians
Annual Multi-trip cover is set up to suit Australians who travel regularly.
Here’s the quick version:
- Choose your start date and your maximum trip length option. This is the maximum number of days we’ll help cover for each trip you make within 12 months.
- Select your excess amount. This is the amount deducted from a claim payment if you need to make a claim. You can choose the option that best suits your travel style and budget. The default excess is $200. You can choose between $0, $100 and $200.
- Choose your cancellation cover amount, you have the option of $2,500, $5,000, $10,000 or Unlimited. You can choose to increase the maximum amount of cover you have, in case you need to cancel or change your trip before you set off.
- Travel overseas as often as you like during the 12 month period.
- Each trip is a return journey and your cover applies to each journey you take.
This is a convenient option if your year includes multiple overseas holidays, repeat work travel, or a mix of both.
Pick the trip length that matches how Australians travel
Not every Australian traveller takes the same kind of trips, so you can choose the maximum duration that suits how you like to travel, whether it’s a short family break in Bali, a quick getaway to Queenstown, or a longer European adventure exploring iconic cities and hidden gems.
- Up to 30 days
- Up to 60 days
- Up to 90 days
If you’re planning several overseas trips this year, you can take out one policy and get cover across a full year of travel.

Frequent traveller tips
Travelling often comes with its own rhythms. A few small habits can help make each trip smoother and more enjoyable.
1. Look after your health
Long haul flights, jet lag and changing climates can take a toll. Plan for rest, stay hydrated and bring healthy snacks on board. Pick up snacks after customs so they don’t get confiscated and be sure to leave anything not eaten on the flight due to some countries customs requirements.
2. Beat the queues
Most people head for the shortest line at customs or immigration. Sometimes it’s better to watch how quickly the line moves. A quick online search can also help you avoid peak airport times.
3. Check departures for taxis
If the arrivals taxi queue is huge, it may be worth checking the departures area if it’s nearby. Departures often have taxis dropping people off and heading back out.
When planning where to travel, it’s important for Australian travellers to review the latest guidance on the Australian Government’s Smartraveller site. If a destination is subject to a “Do Not Travel” or “Reconsider Your Need to Travel” warning when you purchase or update your policy, cover may be limited for events related to that advisory.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does an Annual Multi-trip policy actually cover?
Annual Multi-trip travel insurance provides cover for multiple overseas journeys within a 12-month period under a single policy. It’s designed so you don’t need to arrange cover every time you book a new trip, provided each journey meets your selected trip length and policy conditions.
How do I choose the trip duration?
When you take out a policy, you select the maximum length for each overseas trip, such as 30, 60 or 90 days. It’s important to choose a duration that reflects your longest expected trip, as cover won’t apply once you exceed that limit.
Can I travel as often as I like during the year?
Yes. There’s no cap on the number of overseas return trips you can take within the policy period. Each journey is treated separately, as long as each return trip falls within your selected trip duration and destination cover.
Is this type of policy worth it for frequent travellers?
For Australians who take multiple overseas trips each year, Annual Multi-trip insurance can be a more efficient option. It removes the need to organise cover every time you travel and ensures you’re already protected when plans come together.
How does cover apply across multiple trips?
Your policy applies each time you leave Australia, with benefit limits generally applying per trip. The excess applies per unexpected event rather than per policy year.
What support is available if I need medical care overseas?
The policy includes cover for overseas medical and evacuation expenses, subject to the policy wording. As Medicare generally doesn’t provide cover outside Australia, having travel insurance in place can help with the cost of treatment and support services while you’re away.
What happens if something disrupts my trip?
If your journey is affected by an unexpected event after you’ve left Australia, the policy can provide cover for additional transport or accommodation costs needed to rearrange or cut your trip short, within the applicable limits and conditions.
Are valuables and luggage covered on each trip?
Baggage and personal items are covered for loss, theft or damage, along with provisions for essential items if your luggage is delayed. Sub-limits, depreciation and conditions apply, so it’s important to review the Product Disclosure Statement.
Can I add cover for specific types of travel?
Yes. Activities like cruising, skiing or riding a moped or motorbike are not automatically included, but optional add-ons may be available depending on your plans.
Do travel warnings affect my cover?
Yes. Australians should check Smartraveller before they travel. Cover may not apply for events connected to destinations with a “Do Not Travel” or “Reconsider Your Need to Travel” advisory, where the advisory is relevant to the claim.
Where can I check the full details before buying?
This page provides a summary only. You should read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) to understand eligibility, benefits, limits, exclusions and conditions before purchasing.
