How to master pre take-off

10 hacks to prepare you for travelling

Pre take-off can be pretty stressful. There are a number of things you need to think about before you even get on the plane. From bookings and bag packing, to transport, airport formalities, and of course, being on time! Ease the stress and start your vacation early with these 10 simple pre take-off hacks.

1. Get the best price

Switch your device to private browsing when you make online bookings to be sure you get the newest, and potentially cheapest prices.

2. Get the best seat on the plane

If you love a little bit of extra legroom or like to get a great view from the window, use a website like Seat Guru to pick out the best spot for you before you check in.

3. Save on parking

A little bit of online research can go a long way. You can often save yourself a small fortune if you find the right facility and book your parking in advance. + Note down where you parked, it will help on your return.

4. Have it handy

When packing your hand luggage, keep in mind that certain items need to be shown or removed multiple times throughout your journey. Make it easy for yourself to grab items like your passport, tickets, laptop, charger or earphones. + Remember a pen for customs forms.

5. Treat your luggage to VIP

Worried about the contents of your luggage? Put a fragile sticker on your case. Not only does this mean your bag is more likely to be handled correctly, but it’ll also find itself at the top of the pile in the storage compartment of the plane. The result? You’ll get your bag back sooner.

6. Prep your gadgets

Load your smartphone with Skype, Viber and WhatsApp. Whenever you are connected on wifi these wonderful apps will let you phone, video call, text and instant message with everyone back home for free.

7. Double up

Keep a scan or snapshot of your passport and itinerary on your phone. This provides an extra copy in the event of loss or theft and it comes in handy when you need to access information quickly.

8. Know your way around

Turning on your wifi whilst in aeroplane mode can give you access to Google maps even if you’re not connected. Surrounding routers will help your device work out your location, which means you can find your way around without having to pay hefty roaming charges.

9. Keep the beat

If you have a music subscription with Spotify or Apple music, you can save songs and playlists to be available offline, then you can still listen to all your favourites without being connected.

10. Your own departures board

If you need to check the departure board but don’t want to leave the comfy spot you’ve found , just download Flight Board to your phone and you’ll be able to look at all the departure information at the click of a button.

One final check! Before you leave home, take a look on the airport website. You’ll be able to see any delays that might affect your travel, and take a peak at what shops and restaurants will be in your terminal too!
